Flight Departures at Alicante Airport

Over ten million passengers pass through the airport each year, making it the fifth busiest airport in Spain. Many of the flights from Alicante are international, flying to the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands. The airport is located nearby Elche, and is only 9 km, or 5.6 miles from Alicante. Although smaller than Malaga Airport, Alicante has all the facilities that departing passengers require.

Alicante Airport is the fourth largest base for the low-cost giant Ryanair, which serves the majority of destinations from the airport (a total of 59). Each year Ryanair carries over two million passengers to many worldwide locations such as Glasgow-Prestwick, Bologna, London-Stansted, London-Gatwick, Hahn, Bergamo-Orio al Serio, Birmingham, Seville, Treviso, Liverpool, Bristol, Gothenburg-City, and many more. The second largest airline carrier at Alicante is Easyjet, serving over a million passengers per year. Their destinations include Belfast-International, Glasgow-International, Manchester, Liverpool and Bristol. Air Berlin is the third largest airline carrying around 700,000 passengers per year to various destinations such as Frankfurt, Munich and Palma de Mallorca. Other airline carriers include Aer Lingus, Air Europa, Bmibaby, Flybe, Iberia, Iceland Express, Norwegian Air Shuttle, Scandinavian Airlines, Thomas Cook Airlines, and Vueling.

Alicante's terminal buildings are located adjacent to one another, and there is no need for motorized transportation between them. Terminal 1 has 38 check-in desks, plus an extra one dedicated to baggage, 11 gates, of which five have air-bridges and 9 baggage reclaim carousels. Terminal 2, or T2, features 14 check-in desks, 6 gates, none of which have air bridges, and two baggage reclaim carousels. Terminal 1 is therefore the main and larger of Alicante Airport's terminals. Once Terminal 3 is completed, there will be a further 92 check-in desks, 40 gates, of which 16 will have air-bridges, and 14 baggage reclaim carousels. Terminal 3 is currently under construction adjacent to Terminal 1. Passengers flying with Easyjet will check-in at Terminal 2, and may depart from gates in either Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, while Ryanair passengers will check-in at Terminal 1 and depart from gates within either terminal as well.

Facilities within the terminals include a post office, bureaux de change booths, cash machines, a pharmacy located in the arrival area on the lower floor, and business facilities provided by the VIP Lounge of the airport. These are just basic business services such as internet access, telephone, fax and photocopying. Full conference facilities can be found at the nearby Holiday Inn Alicante-Playa de San Juan. The airport has an excellent range of retail outlets for all your shopping requirements, and some top-quality restaurants and cafes for meals and refreshments. These include the Bill Bentley Pub, Burger King, Haagen Dazs, Restaurante El Palmeral and Plantaciones.

Alicante Airport is fully accessible by disabled and reduced mobility passengers. There are toilet facilities adapted for those in wheelchairs, as well as ramps and elevators to ease mobility between the airport levels. Reserved parking spaces are available for those who hold relevant badges. Disabled passengers may also be dropped of in a dedicated area right outside the terminal entrance. Further assistance can be provided by airline staff and airport management. Arranged assistance will include collection of the person in need of help at the Meeting Point, help with hand luggage and check-in procedures, as well as help through security control areas. Assistance with boarding the aircraft can also be provided. Additional assistance can be arranged when you book your airline ticket, and this should be at least 48 hours in advance of your departure flight. Specify all your needs and disabilities realistically so that adequate help can be provided by the airline and airport staff.

Passengers should ensure that they arrive in good time for their departure flight. At least an hour before the time for domestic flights and up to three hours in advance for international departures. Be aware that your hand luggage will be checked by security and that it should not contain any prohibited articles, such as toy guns, scissors, razors or any object that could be used to cause harm to other passengers. Checked baggage should not weigh more than the airline's specified weight restrictions, and should be of a suitable size. Details on checked baggage requirements are usually noted on the back of your airline ticket. Passengers with baggage which exceeds the airline's limitations will pay an extra fee. All kinds of liquids are allowed to be carried in checked baggage, but liquids carried in hand luggage are subject to certain limitations. Passengers should at all times respect the security rules and procedures put in place at the airport, as they are necessary for everyone’s safety and security.
